Hey, everybody what’s up? It’s Aaron from freeandeasyguitar.com. The lesson I'm going to do right now is a new song by Taylor Swift called You Belong With Me. So we’re getting a lot of request for this. Taylor Swift is like learning some of her new stuff. So this song is a standard tuning. So your guitar in standard tuning and then you want to put your capo on fourth fret for the way I'm going to teach you.
The tab that I'm going to give you, I found an ultimateguitar.com and it says the four chords on the left which are just D, A, E-minor, and G, okay. Those are only four chords you’re going to need in this whole song and you’re going to play them in that order. You’re going to play D, A, E-minor and G for the verse, there to begin. You’re going to see some of the other chords. It says, or you can play a G, D, E-minor, C. That is only if your guitar don’t have steps. So don’t worry about playing that right now. So right now, just stick with the D, A-minor, E-minor and G.
So, basically the song sounds a little bit like this. I mean it’s pretty simple as [Demonstration]. It is just these four chords. I'm missing two measures for each on the D. And for some reason I think it sounds while playing along with one of her first song, just the strum pattern I used and she kind of sings fast, which she has a lot of words and like this song. Bi just use the all down strums, okay. And you can tell, I put more emphasis on something like [Demonstration].
The one and the four, down strums, you’re going play eight bTo one of the four down strums you’ve got to play eight beats [Demonstration] twice for each chords, so in the D [Demonstration]. I’ll play it again [Demonstration]. Switch on A [Demonstration]. E-minor to a G [Demonstration].
So that’s how we play that for the verse. Now for the, I guess you’d say the three chords, “But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts. She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers.” You’re going to go the E-minor [Demonstration]. Just two eight beats for that, so she wear short skirts [Demonstration].
So the first time through you’re going E-minor to a G to a D and A. And the second time through is E-minor, “Dreaming about the day when you wake up,” G, “And find what you’re looking for is here the whole time,” that’s all an A. “So what you’ve been looking has been here the whole time,” this is an A. So you can play that eight beats twice. The chorus, “If you could see I'm the one who understands, you’ve been here long, so why can’t you see me. You go on with me. You go on with me.” You can play all down strums, but if you want to add a little variation to it, just play strum pattern like this.
[Demonstration]
One thing about songs that I haven’t really stressed a whole lot in the past is, when you’re singing a song you want it really not just like sing just the lyrics, but look at the song and see what the song is in the point. Different parts of the songs what they mean, who they’re talking to. Like in this song, “But she wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts.
She’s cheer captain and I’m on the bleachers.” That part where I'm playing the whole note [Demonstration]. The all down strums kind of like up beat. It’s almost Taylor Shift is kind of saying to herself, comparing herself with this girl, but when she gets to the part, “If you could see that I’m the one who understands. You’ve been here all along. So why can’t you see. You belong with me. You belong with me.” It’s kind of transition because you think about yourself. She’s kind of talking to the guy. She’s telling this to the guy. So that’s why I kind of switch the strum pattern because it’s a little softer and more kind of like where the girl is kind of begging to the guy. So if you know just that [Demonstration]. Switch to you’re A [Demonstration], E-minor [Demonstration]. You belong with me is a G chord [Demonstration].You belong with me D, okay.
The rest of the verses and everything are just the same. Chords are the same. The only thing I want to show you different is the bridge there. It’s just E-minor to G to D to A. E-minor, G, D, A. All right so now I'm going to try and play some of the major points, parts of this song, you can kind like feel for. So we’re going to start that in your D [Demonstration]
Okay. That’s the pre-chords and the chords [Demonstration]. Also the tough peach because she sing it higher. I'm just trying to kind of keep same rhythm. So that should do it for the song. I hope that helps you guys a little bit, enjoy the song, freeandeasyguitar.com about 250 plus lessons and good luck. Take care.
