How to Play a Classical Sounding Lick using Open Strings
Hi this is Andy James from licklibrary.com. In this tutorial, we are going to be looking on how to create a classical sounding lick by using an open string. So here is the lick and then I will break it down.
Okay we are starting this on the 5th fret on the B string and that is going to be in the key of E minor. And we are going to have this. That is going to be the first part of the lick. And we are going to be using alternate picking with our right hand so start with the down stroke and we are going to have the 5th fret on the B. To open base, 4th fret on the B to open base so we have got this. Then 7th fret on the B to open base. Then on to the B to open base so we have got this.
And to finish this first part of the lick, we have got eight on the B, open base, 7 on the B open B. So at slow tempo so far, we have got this.
Okay, so the next part of the lick, we are going to move up to the 10th fret on the B and then we are going to play open B twice. Then eight open B twice, so then we are going to have 12 open B, 13 open B. Back to 12 open B, then 10 open B, 12 open B. So, so far, we have got this.
Then we are going to have 12 to 10 open B. 10, 8 open B. Then we are going to have 8, 7 open B so then 10, 8 open B. 8, 7 open B. Then 7, 5 open B. So, so far, we have got this.
Then to the next beat, we have got 7, 8 open B. 7, 5 open B, Then 5, 4 open B. Back to 7, 5 open B. 8 open B and then finish on 5 on the B string. So at slow tempo, the lick should sound like this. And up to speed.
Okay, that is it for today. Hopefully you have enjoyed the lick. So until next time, keep strumming.
