Hi, this is Andy James from licklibrary.com. In this tutorial, we are going to be looking at an octave lick using hybrid picking. So here is the lick and then we are going to break it down.
Okay, this lick is actually on the key of E minor. The first part is pretty much outlining the first three positions of the E minor pentatonic scales. In each first note we played, we are just finding the octave of that note. So the first note is going to be the 12th fret on the lower E string then we are going to use our middle finger on the right hand to pick the second note, which is the 14th fret on the D which is an octave higher than the first note. Then we are going to slide from 12 up to 15 on the lower E and then play 17, which is an octave higher on the D. So far, we have this. Repeat 15 on the lower E then we are going to play 16 on the G and pluck that with the right hand so we have this. Then we are going to slide from 14 to 12 on the A, play 14 on the G plucking it with the right hand then 12 on the A again. Then we are going to have 15 on the B plucked and then 12 slides to 14 on the D and then play 17 plucked with the right hand. So far, in slow tempo we should have this.
Okay, once you get to the 17th fret on the B, we are going to repeat the 14th fret on the D and then we are going to skip over and we are going to pluck with the right hand 17 on the high E and then 14 slides down to 12 on the G. Then we are going to play 15 on the high E, so we have this. After playing 15 on the high E, we are back to 12 on the G then we have 15 plucked on the B string, 12 on the D and then slide up to 14. Then we have 17 on the B that is 14 on the D. So far, we have this. Then we are going to have 17 on the high E, 14 on the G, slide from 14 up to 16 on the G then we are going to play 19 on the high E then slide from 16 up to 21 on the G and then play 24 on the high E. So that last part of the lick should sound like this. The whole lick on slow should sound like this. Finally up to speed.
Well that is the end of the today’s lesson, I hope you have enjoyed learning that lick and until next time, keep treading.
