How to Play the Banjo: Basic Chords

The next thing I want to talk about is some basic chords. (Demonstration) There is our G chord. We are going to start to a G chord (Demonstration). A C chord looks like this (Demonstration). This is an open chord. We call it open chord because it has an open string in it (Demonstration). That makes it easier to learn, so we’ll learn open chords first.

That is a C chord (Demonstration), here is a D7 chord (Demonstration) just got two fingers and then G (Demonstration). So those three chords that will be enough for us to start learning. We can try playing our rhythm patterns with those chords (Demonstration). The left rhythm pattern (Demonstration). That is a nice little progression playing; just G-C-G-D-G-C-G-D-G emanates mostly two measures on each of the chords.

So we got a basic scale now, basic chords (Demonstration). The next thing we’ll do is learn a simple song.
