Next, we are going to learn Fogging Mountain Breakdown. This is an important song to learn because there is a right hand pattern in it that gets use a lot. It goes like this (guitar playing). And that little row, that rhythm pattern right there works for hundreds of things or more maybe I do not know many, many things. (Guitar playing), here is how this pattern works, it just like the tag you can have a space on it to learn it first without space. The basic pattern it goes like this, index middle, thumb middle, (guitar demo). You would be possible to play fourth first notes which just the two fingers, (guitar playing). But what you want to bring that thumb down there, (guitar playing). There is a better appose right down to itself. You could play both, the first and the second string with the thumb if you wanted, (guitar playing), but not on the second time because it comes out with that forward low and your thumb is just hidden note.
You do not want to hit two notes in a row that are quick notes, are fastest notes. Sixteen notes or eight notes depending on how you are writing music in such, you do want to hit the two fast notes in row with the same finger, (guitar demo). So you never want to do that except in very specific circumstances, (guitar demo).
So you have to start the second row with the index. That is one of things about the Banjo’s style that we are doing here is all these rows are design to not repeat a finger, and not repeat a string. There is a special technique of playing them in single strings, which we will begin into a little later. So this is our basic pattern, (guitar playing). And we can play that pattern with a space, (guitar playing). We will still use our thumb after the space, (guitar playing) and do not just play the two fingers, (guitar playing). So that was done both ways.
In this tone, there is a hammer on with that, (guitar demo). You got the double hammer on. Again, try to notice your left hand fingers changing the pressure from one finger to the next. If you just lock the one finger down, it will get you in trouble, (guitar playing).
I am not going to bother playing the simple melody to the song because this is a Banjo tone and basically the whole song is melody. Here is the whole song (guitar playing). Now to the slow version, (guitar playing).
You will notice that with that initial line, (guitar playing), (guitar demo) but the index is change to the third strings instead of (guitar playing) second string with the index (music playing) and changes the third string (guitar playing). It is still a Fogging Mountain Row. I called it Fogging Mountain Row. You can play the whole thing with the third string, (guitar playing). It is a very eversible row and you can use it for lot of different things.
