If you get your lowest string in tune and then fret it in the 5th fret you will matched the 3rd string open. The 3rd string you played at the 4th fret and it matches the 2nd string open. The 2nd string, fret at the 3rd fret and it matches the 1st string open. Finally, match the 5th fret on the 1st string to the 5th string. That is a little (music is playing) system you can use to tune your banjo.
I like to tune the banjo (music is playing) like this while I fret the 2nd string at the 3rd fret. That makes all G’s and D’s and it is very resonance sound (music is playing). And I compare all the strings first to the 3rd string and that is the 3rd and the 4th. That is the 3rd and the 2nd that is the 3rd and the 1st that was the 2nd string was fretted at the 3rd fret and 3rd and the 5th.
