How to Play the Blues Scale on Guitar
Hi, I’m Robert Renman, from dolphinstreet.com. Today I wanna show you a nice little blues lick using the blues scale. This lick is in key of A. Let’s have a look at it. So this lick is using the blues scale in the key of A, and I’m starting on the note C here on the, the 8th fret on the E string. Here it is at a slower tempo. Or you can play that lick in at a different tempos and it will still sound good. Here’s a little faster tempo. And here it is at a little slower tempo. And one little tip here, when you’re playing over the A chord… it sounds cool to bend that last note C, up to C sharp, slowly. Makes it fit well with that A7 chord. It’s typical of blues band to do. It doesn’t work so well over the D chord, so, you only wanna do that bend when you’re on the A chord. You can bend either up or down, if you prefer it. Has no difference, just your preferences. There you go, hope you like this lick. And I also hope it gives an idea of how you can use a scale and create licks from it without it sounding less like a scale, because it’s like it’s playing this scale up and down, nothing sound really nice, never interesting. That’s kind of a boring way to play the blues, right, so… that’s a little bit more interesting. So, you see I’m still using the, the blues scale, but I’m making a statement out of it.
