Hi, I am Bob from Toronto, Canada. This guitar lesson is about how to play the Intro “The Free Bird” by Lynard Skynard. The original recording is played with a slide but I will show how you play it with just your fingers. I will play it with the backing track first and then I will show how it is played. Okay. So, here it goes.
[Demonstration]
Like that. Okay. Start on the second string, III fret middle finger.
[Demonstration]
Slide up to the VIII fret.
[Demonstration]
And the VII.
[Demonstration]
Hammer on the VIII.
[Demonstration]
Back to VII.
[Demonstration]
And the VIII fret again, second string.
[Demonstration]
Then pull off the VII.
[Demonstration]
Then to the third string IX fret.
[Demonstration]
Pull off to the VII fret.
[Demonstration]
Slide up to the IX fret.
[Demonstration]
XI fret,
[Demonstration]
Pull off to the IX fret.
[Demonstration]
Slide to down the VII.
[Demonstration]
And back to the IX.
[Demonstration]
So that part again slowly.
[Demonstration]
Okay. And back to the third string, IX fret.
[Demonstration]
Pull off to the VII.
[Demonstration]
Fourth string, IX fret.
[Demonstration]
Slide up to the V fret.
[Demonstration]
Then your third string, X fret.
[Demonstration]
Play it twice.
[Demonstration]
And once more.
[Demonstration]
Pull off the IX fret.
[Demonstration]
And play the fourth string, X fret.
[Demonstration]
Fifth string, X fret.
[Demonstration]
Then to the third string, IV fret.
[Demonstration]
V fret.
[Demonstration]
Slide it to the VII fret.
[Demonstration]
VI.
[Demonstration]
VII.
[Demonstration]
And slide all the way up to the XIX fret.
[Demonstration]
Pull off to the XVII fret, still on the third string.
[Demonstration]
And to the XIX fret on the fourth string.
[Demonstration]
And back to the third string, XVII fret.
[Demonstration]
Slide up to the XIX fret.
[Demonstration]
Then, play the whole thing again, second time around, do the exactly the same as the first time. But instead of sliding up to the XIX fret by the third string, just go to the VII fret on the third string. And pull off.
[Demonstration]
To the V fret ends to the IV fret, VII. Sorry. Go to the fourth string, VII fret.
[Demonstration]
And back to the third string, V fret.
[Demonstration]
And slide up to the VII fret.
[Demonstration]
So that part one more time slowly.
[Demonstration]
And the second time around is.
[Demonstration]
Okay. If you want to play along, I will play the backing guitar track on this guitar, right. Okay, here is my A string for the tune.
[Demonstration]
Okay, ready. One, two, three, four,
[Demonstration]
Those chords there are Dsus.
[Demonstration]
D.
[Demonstration]
D with the open first string.
[Demonstration]
Back to the D.
[Demonstration]
And it is G.
[Demonstration]
G with an F# which is the top string, II fret.
[Demonstration]
Em.
[Demonstration]
F.
[Demonstration]
C.
[Demonstration]
And back to the same D chords.
[Demonstration]
Play that twice.
Hey, well. I hope this lesson was fun and helpful and thanks for watching.
