All right kids, Your Guitar Sage here, and today, we’re going to change the pace a little bit. We’re going to learn In My Room by The Beach Boys. I’m looking at the chart here on my computer and I’m going to start and then we’ll talk about the specifics. So it’s going to go something like this because I’m going to be finger picking for right now, so it’s going to go something like this.
[Demonstration]
So that was the first. We’re going to repeat that. The chorus is going to be something like this.
[Demonstration]
Okay and stop. That’s the whole thing. We’ll talk about the specifics here and as far as the chords and all that, and actually we’re going to break it down, we won’t arpeggiating when I’m describing the chords here to you. Arpeggiating is when you take a chord [demonstration] and you start strumming it, you do that. Okay, you break the chord up basically.
So, let’s talk about the chords specifically and then we’ll talk about construction and all that good stuff. And by the way, for those of you that—some of you are going to get exactly what I’m doing here right away and then some of you are not. And for those of you that don’t, check out yourguitarsage.com and purchase the eBook, there’s a ton of great useful knowledge in there for strumming, how to read charts, how to use your capo, how to play your open chords and all that good stuff. So it’s packed stuff, about 33 pages and you can download them immediately. Then also you can get your hands on this chart so check that out as well, a lot easier to look at that—a lot easier to understand when you’re looking at the chart.
Okay, so here we go, the chords are going to go like this. In the intro, it’s going to go G, and by the way, with the exemption of the chords, these are all one measure per chord. So, it’s going to be like this, it’s going to go a measure of [demonstration] G, and by the way, we’ll capo it at the fourth fret of that. So it’s better for you to buy a capo, it’s about $12.00 and it will really help you out. Okay so, a measure of [demonstration] G, in this song pardon me if I stop again, the song is in six and the songs that we’re doing are in four. This one is in the six. So, [demonstration], six equals of measure. And on the seven, we got [demonstration] in G. We got a measure of E minor, a measure of A minor, two measures of D. And then the verse goes five measures of G. So [demonstration], then an F for a measure and back to a G for a measure, E minor for a measure, A minor for a measure, F for a measure, E for two measures, G for a measure, F for a measure, and two Gs. And that verse will repeat twice I believe.
The chorus is going to go like this, E minor for two measures, D for two measures, and here’s our split bars. What we need at split bars is we get two chords that share the bar, share the measure. So this first four measures were E minor for two, D for two measures, and this part is going to go [demonstration]. So we’re counting that like [demonstration]. Or in this case, [demonstration].
So again, the first eight measures are going to be like this.
[Demonstration]
I’m slowing it down, here we go.
[Demonstration]
The second part of the chorus is going to be [demonstration], so two measures of E minor, two measures of D, three of C, and one of D. So that’s it.
Now as far as strumming or anything like that, let’s talk about a couple of things. So we could do something like this, take that from the intro, it would be like.
[Demonstration]
Something like that. So I’m just doing like.
[Demonstration]
Or you could do on arpeggio, you could do.
[Demonstration]
And I’m just doing that, once you did four, five, six by playing the bass note with my thumb and then playing the other five notes [demonstration] on this high notes here.
Okay, so that’s it as far as the rhythm and as far as the finger picking or strumming or whatever you want to do here. Hopefully, you guys have learned that and I would pack a lot into few minutes here. So again, if you guys who aren’t getting it, check out that eBook. It’s really informative and if you’ve been hesitating, go and get it because it will help you with all these tunes that I’m teaching and it will make everything make a lot more sense. Because again, when I’m sitting down with students, we have a half hour or an hour, sometimes even longer sometimes to teach one song for several weeks and here we are trying to pack it into under 10 minutes.
So hopefully, you’ve learned something. Keep checking in. I’m putting up new videos everyday. Hit subscribe if you haven’t already and go practice.
