Welcome to the White Glove demo for Station Master. This is the game where you are in charge of a railroad station, trying to be successful by placing your passengers on appropriate trains.
At the beginning of the game, you get six passenger tokens. One shows three passengers, two show two passengers and three of the chips have one passenger on them. Passengers want to ride on passenger cars and the nicer, the better. Passengers do not want to be crammed in with train car with luggage and what-not.
There are two decks of cards in the game; one is the Locomotive or Engine Deck. Each engine card has a number on it. This tells you how many carriages may be attached to that train and how many passenger chips can be placed on that train. There are also special engines that affect certain carriages and Freight engine that reverses the value or carriages.
Depending on the number of players, you may have to remove engines from the deck. At the beginning of the game, place as many engine cards face up as there are players.
The other deck called Station Master Cards are either train carriages or action cards. You start the game with a hand of three station master card. On your turn, you can do one of two things; place a passenger chip on an engine or play a card. You may place a passenger chip on any engine that does not already have tokens equal to the engine number. You may have more than one token on an engine. Chips are always played face down so that others can’t see how many passengers you have added. But you may always look at your own chips.
If you play a card, you can’t add a passenger chip this turn, you will play your card and then draw a card to replace it. Carriage cards come in two colors; green cards are passenger cars worth positive points, red cards have negative values and as you might suspect, your passengers don’t want to be on them.
You may play a carriage on any engine that has less carriage cards than the number on the engine card. You may play a carriage on empty trains or on the engines with other players. Someone is not going to be happy about that animal car. There are special carriages that only want to be attached to certain engines. These carriages are worth positive points if paired correctly and negative points if attached to a different engine.
If you play an action card, a yellow card, you will simply follow the instructions on the card. These cards can add or subtract carriages, move passengers or even cause a train to leave early.
There is one special Station Master card rush hour. It is revealed as soon as it’s drawn and an additional engine is added face up to the table. You will now have one extra engine out until the end of the game.
As soon as carriages equal to the engine number have been attached, the train leaves the station and you score the train.
To score a train, all of the passenger chips are now revealed, add up the value of the carriages then multiply the carriage total, positive or negative by the value of the passenger chips for each player.
Once the train is scored, discard the engine and draw a new one to replace it. You get your passenger chips back to use again.
The game ends once the last engine has left the station. If you run out of Station Master cards, you continue to play cards from your hand until the last train has left. If you have the most points at the end of the game, you are the winner.
And that is how to play Station Master. It is a short game that has a bit of bluffing, a bit of being mean and a lot of fun. Here is hoping that your next game is more than—
