How to Play the Upright Piano

This is the upright piano, in contrast to the grand piano the upright piano takes up a much smaller floor space. Since it’s a small instrument it’s often used in condominiums and apartments. Another advantage of having an upright piano is that in the middle pedal often, you can depress it and lock it up to the left, this we call the practice mute pedal. This is what causes a piece of fault to descend between the hammers and the strings to mute the sound. So that normally if you play [Demonstration] now with the mutes pedal depress unlock to the left it sounds like this. [Demonstration] So, basically you can hear yourself but you won’t disturb your neighbors so this is a very handy tool to have.
