Female: Hi Kenda. A lot of parents have exactly this question even if they’re experienced. The main things to do when you are putty training your child, first of all get your child, a small putty, put it in a very accessible place and then let them watch you go to the bathroom. Now the thing about putty training is it’s very much like a light switch. So you want to set the stage.

You want to make sure that your children see you going to the putty. They’re invited to go to the putty as well and encourage them gently. They’ll follow along and when they’re ready, that means fine motor movement as well as gross motor movement, being able to pull their pants down and pull their pants up, and then they’ll be ready to go.
