The best way to overcome fear is to face with equanimity, the situation of which one is afraid. Then when it gets the correct perspective and one is not frightened anymore , to topple over while learning the headstand is not as terrible as we imagine.
Hi, I'm Dina Prioste, and welcome to Get Exercised. In yoga, much like in life, I may not like every single thing that I have to do, but I believe that facing fears and practicing exercises that make me uncomfortable especially in here will only make a stronger person.
So today, with the help of BKS Iyengar and McDucky, two famous yoga gurus, I'm going to redo the headstand. According Iyengar in Light on Yoga, there are many ways to come into a headstand. We’re just going to do two of them today. One with bent knees, like that and I will magically go from there to there. Taking the elbows down to the floor, interlace the hands on front, keeping the elbow’s shoulder width apart, taking the very grown of the head to the floor, the top of the head and lifting up like coming to a downward dog, pressing down to the iron. So, I'm going to walk my feet in and bend my knees and use my arm strength to lift up, keeping the knees bent, slowly straighten. Take my knees maybe there and then from here, straightened.
Regular practice makes healthy pure blood flow through the brain cells. It rejuvenates them so that thinking power increases and bots become clear. The second way, is with straight legs, magically from there because Iyengar is magical, to there. Now, keeping the legs straight, I like this one a lot better. Same set up, top of the head to the floor. Using my arm strengthen from here, going to lift up, keeping my legs straight. I'm going to just tippy toe my feet and until my hips. I feel my hips over my shoulders, and then pressing down to my arms. I'm going to lift up here and come straight up.
Well, I think those headstands were much better than my first headstands on the show, and I didn’t get better at them by avoiding practice. So keep practicing what challenges your body and mind.
Thanks for watching. I'm Dina Prioste and you have just been exercised. One becomes balanced and self reliant, and pain and pleasure, loss and gain, shame and fame and defeat and victory. That’s freaking awesome.
