It’s very simple. These are great for the summer time. We need fresh mints and the mints at this time of year are very beautiful like you can get really nice fresh mint at any grocery store.
Start with some fresh mints. We sell this by the glass or by the pitcher and we do different flavors. I’ll show you how to do that in a minute. Just kind of chop them roughly. I’ve got a little tumbler here. We’re going to put that in here with some ice. What we’re going to do is muddle this mint. We’ll just basically crush it and that gets all of the oils and all of the flavor out of the mint.
I’ve got some fresh lime here and little squeezer. Just squeeze some nice fresh lime. Don’t use that stuff in the bottle. It’s just not the same. And you could do this just when you’re making it. It’s cool you’re having a little party, a little garden party, a little picnic. It’s a very sexy drink and whoever is crushing these limes, the chicks are going to dig him unless it’s me and vice versa the guys will dig the chicks. Everybody loves the bartender. So I’ve got three limes cut in half. We’re going to put that in there with my mints.
This drink is kind of like a hot drink around the country. I don’t know whoever read all those gourmet magazines and stuff. It seems like Mojitos is kind of the drink at the moment. So there we go, we’ve got all my fresh mints in here. We’ve got a little muddling thing. You can also probably use a wooden spoon or something. We kind of crush that up.
All my bartenders have extremely strong forearms because they make a lot of these things. First line up with the ice and the ice will kind of like help to get all of the flavors out of the mint. I’ve got a beautiful pitcher here. We call this pitcher at the restaurant The Matrix. I’m going to pour that in there like that. You don’t want too much mint. Otherwise, you get like a basically taste like a pitcher full of a toothpaste.
The other things we have here is simple syrup. You can buy this at any store or if you want to make it yourself, you just mix half part sugar and half part water and you dissolve it or you could cook it until it’s dissolved but it’s easier just to buy it especially if you’re having a big party you’ll be making lots of these pitchers.
So, we’re going to do equal parts of Rose’s Lime Juice. This just kind of gives a little extra and this simple syrup we can do about a half of cup for each. You could do it to taste. I don’t like my Mojitos too sweet. A lot of people though use Sprite and it just kind of takes that fresh edge off of it for me.
Then we’ve got of course, rum. Again, you could do this to taste. I’d like to probably put maybe a little bit more, maybe a cup of that. Then, I’m going to top it off with some club soda to give it a little bit of effervescence. Oh that’s effervescence, alright. And give it a little sparkle. Beautiful! Mix that sucker up. These are hard to beat in the summer time, sitting out in the patio with a glass of Mojitos on your hand.
So here’s my trick. I’ve got a couple of purees here. I don’t know if this is available in the stores but you can make them yourself. I’ve got a mango and a raspberry. But if you want you can take fresh mango and chop it up and you could put it in your tumbler and muddle it right along with the mint. Likewise, you can use fresh raspberry and it just gives it a little color and a little bit more sweetness and a little bit more acid.
So I’ve got my regular Mojito. You can either add the stuff in after or you can make a whole pitcher of the flavor but I thought this would be easy for fresher. You just want to add a little bit of puree. Again, you can make this fresh, mix it up and boom. You got three cocktails in one. You can do pretty much anything. We do at the restaurant we do a Blood Orange which is really good and that’s a Spanish fruit. This kills on the summer time so next time you guys have friends over, this is what I would go with.
