I am Mark Ericsson and this is Infinite Solutions.
Today, I will be responding to a viewer email. Reggie Langston, right?
Hello, Mark. I read the daylight savings is changing this year and it is causing problems where computers and networks. Should I be worried? Or this is just a Y2K scam?
Excellent question Reggie. Yes! Daylight saving time is lengthen this year and if you have not updated your computer’s time registry files. You are at risk of losing valuable information.
What does could mean for you as lost emails, virus exposure and no essence stability. I set up a close circuit simulation. This service had been altered to simulate DST change over and this computer has a C fall timer registries. As you can see, all my emails are getting lost. I am not able to log in the websites with time based cookies. All my schedules the last task, are failing like before I can adjust too, if I try to force the time settings to update… BSOD.
A patch has been release for this problem. But many firewalls have preventing its auto installation. Here is how to see if you need it. Go into the start menu and run regedit. Follow this path.
You should see every times it is listed out an individual folders. If the folder name is followed by a suffix of DST2007, your computer is up-to-date. If not, you have to install the patch.
Here is how. Right click on times on folder and select export. Name the export time zones and save it to your desktop. I need to download a file called H9 DST2007v3b. A good place to find is the DST2007 upadate.com. place this file and the exported registry into a folder of any given name.
Now, we start your computer while holding down alt and enter. Notice upon reboot, that the exported registry has gone. In regedit, the suffix is now in every folder. Your computer is ready to handle the switch. Developers recommend performing the subject by the 11th but the window to address daylight saving extends the last year’s DST day also known as Phantom DST. Both are fast approaching, so do not put this off. I am Mark Ericsson. Thanks for watching Infinite Solutions.
