How to Prevent Athlete's Foot

Matt: Hi! I am Matt from Kansas city, Missouri. I was wondering if you had any tips for how to prevent athlete's foot. Julia Padgett: Sure Matt, that's a great question and preventing athlete's foot is something that's really important. Because athlete's foot and the fungus that causes it is present throughout the environment at all times. Taking good care of your skin is one simple and easy thing you can do, because athlete's foot actually needs a little scrape or scratch in the skin to get in and get started with an infection. So, just be careful when you are walking on rough surfaces, you may consider doing something like wearing flip-flops if you are around the pool or in public restaurants or in public showers, since those are other places where athlete's foot fungus can live.
