Hi, everybody! Thanks for joining me again today. Today, I am going to be talking about how to stop a cold or flu and its tracks. It's actually easier than you think. A lot of us feel that we are catching a cold or flu way before we actually catch it. So here are some things that I often tell people to do.
The first thing that I do is take Echinacea. Echinacea is an herb that an immune stimulant and you can get this at the health food store. My favorite brand is Herb Farm and I use their super Echinacea. So I use dropper-fulls every two hours or so, I put it in some water, because it's very spicy and it will make the back of your throat burn, if you don’t put it in some water.
So I do that every couple of hours. I take a lot of vitamin C, usually about 1,000 milligrams, twice a day. If you get loose stools, you want to just take enough so that you don’t get diarrhea from it, because you can get diarrhea from too much vitamin C.
Get a lot of sleep. A lot of people continue on their normal work schedule; try and at least eight hours of sleep and undisturbed preferably. Try and rest throughout the day as much as you can.
You want to stop any excessive sugar intake. This is cadies, cakes, cookies, sodas and especially fruit juice. A lot of people don’t know that fruit juice contains a lot of sugar and they think that it's good for their immune system, which normally would be if you are not about to catch something, but the sugar helps bacteria to overgrow in your system, because it suppresses your immunity.
So you want really cut back on that. You also want to stop taking in any mucus producing foods, particularly dairy products, cheese, pizzas, cream, ice cream, that sort of stuff. Also, orange juice, orange juice particularly produce a lot of mucus. So despite the orange industry, the citrus industry telling you how great it is for your immune system, which -- it does have a lot of vitamin C in it, but there are a lot of other things that also have a lot of vitamin C in it.
Orange juice is not the best choice to do when you are catching a cold or about to catch a cold, because it produces a lot of mucus. So you want to keep that at a minimum.
Also, bananas. Bananas produce a lot of mucus. So you want to go easy on those. You don’t want to exercise at this time, especially if you are starting to -- your body is really needing to rest and excessive exercise will just make it worse.
Perspiration however or sweating is a really good thing. So if you have a sauna or you are taking hot bath is a really good idea to simulate a fever. That’s helpful for the immunity.
Also, doing hot-cold shower or contrast showers, we are going to be talking about how to do that tomorrow, but hot and cold contrast shower therapy is excellent for stimulating your immune system.
So join me tomorrow and I will give you details on how to do that. So thanks again and I hope you recover from your cold a lot of quicker than you would have otherwise expected. Have a great day! I will see you soon. Bye!
