Male: There are two major concerns the first year, one, not gaining enough, what about the other side of the coin, you keep overeating getting very heavy, what could you suggest to mothers so you do not end up with a kid that is 30 pounds in a year of age, you do not want that. Any tips you can give the first year?
Female: Bottle feeding does have a tendency to say we have to finish the bottle so if your child is growing well, you can actually listen to what their stomach is trying to tell you. If they are cutting of that eight ounces, you do not have to go up to the whole nine that you can fit in the bottle. A lot of times, people are concerned about their child crying and so sometimes we see that as soon as the baby cries, they feel like it needs a bottle.
Male: So you can give a hug before you give the bottle?
Female: There is a natural rhythm and I think that again, we do not have that much experience with children that you have to slow down when they are eating but I think that you need to look for what the baby’s natural rhythm is and a lot of times, they are asking for something that may not be the bottle.
Male: There is a lot of concern, we tend not to get water because want to get the calories but when would you suggest we could bring water as a liquid diet without that much concern?
Female: If the child is growing well the first three to six months, then I think it could fine.
Male: Then water can be good. That also says you are not going to get very heavy. What about juices? It is called the anti calorie thing. Is that a good or bad idea, for a diet in the first year?
Female: I am totally with the American Academy on that, there is no real need for introducing juice at all.
Male: A hot summer day may be an exception once in a while but you really do not want to go to that otherwise, is that correct?
