SPEAKING ENGLISH PODCAST
Episode #97 Chicago
What's up everybody? Hello and welcome to the Episode #97 on the Speaking English Podcast. It has been done. Apparently, America has elected Barack Obama to be the next president, and personally, I am pretty happy about that, pretty excited. Also, I am excited that there is a listener in Mongolia, Amru (ph), I hope I am pronouncing this right. Amru (ph) in Mongolia has won a coro deck (ph) and not only am I excited about that but the guy had a collar too, so you will get your deck.
Coming back to Barack Obama, he is from Chicago, and speaking of Chicago, this is today's topic, 'How to pronounce Chicago.' Because it is not Chicago or anything else. It is 'shi-caw-go', just write that down 'shi-caw-go'. Now the caw-go sound is not too difficult but the 'shi', because coming back to last week, when we talked among others things about bitch, 'shh-shhh', it's not how Chicago starts, it starts not with the T but with no 'T', shi, sha, and the letter 'I' in Chicago is not pronounced like you pronounce a double e sound, like in 'beat' or 'greet', it's not see-caw-go, it's more like a 'swa'. If you are familiar with the sound descriptions, 'swa', 'sha-caw-go'. Okay. So 'sha-caw-go'. Barack Obama is from 'shi-caw-go'.
Again, with me, you will do it first, 'shi-caw-go', exactly. Alright, that was it for today. Thanks for watching, and you can leave feedback or email at speakingenglishpodcast@gmail.com and since there were no music hence, there won't any music today, and by the way, I have to change that concept too because the episode was too long and was objected by some supporters out there. So we will do it some kind of other way, maybe just play the beginning of the song, but you need to send me stuff, that's from the Podcast Music Network or some other kind of way. So again, check out our address, speakingenglishpodcast.com. Thanks for watching, bye, bye.
