How to Propose to a Rockette

[MUSIC] Dave Mahanes: My name is Dave Mahanes and this is my wife Gelsey and we have been married about a year and a half now. Gelsey Mahanes: I’m a professional dancer in Radio City Rockette. Like do you know who that is? And he said, Oh yeah. Oh yeah and then later I find out in our relationship that he hang up the phone and called his dad, what’s a rockette? And then, yeah, from there on. Dave Mahanes: Sometimes, it’s good to lie a little bit. Then if I lie, I better get on this pretty quickly and then all just in a good way. Radio City is such a kind of important part of Gelsey’s life and who she is and so when I knew that I wanted to propose to her, I wanted to make it really special and Christmas of course is a time of year when everyone wants to get engaged, It’s kind of festive, the holiday season time to celebrate with your family and I found out that her mom and her grandmother were coming in town to see her show. Okay, I’m in New York City, at the world’s famous Radio City Music Hall. I designed this whole plan and decided to go to Radio City Music Hall on stage after the show. I need yu all to help me with something, okay? When I say I need you to lift tis up, met her right middle stage and asked her to be my wife. Gelsey Mahanes: What are you doing? Dave Mahanes: What do you think? Gelsey Mahanes: I wanna cry. Dave Mahanes: Don’t cry. Gelsey Mahanes: I was really nervous and excited because I didn’t know what he was doing Dave Mahanes: The whole knee thing didn’t give away. It’s why I tried to get some help from you. Have you figured it out? Crowd: Clapping. Dave Mahanes: I would be the luckiest guy in the world if you would be my wife. Will you marry me? I hope it fits. Gelsey Mahanes: It didn’t even occur to me that my mom and grandma were at the show. So, he just did it on a really opportune time and I was very surprised and I thought it was really neat because I think it’s gonna be a great memory through all the years to some. Dave Mahanes: When you’ve waited for something all your life and then to find someone as beautiful as Gelsey and is wonderful to be able to experience this moment with someone is just, me of all people, am speechless. I think I was surprisingly just over taken by the moment, just the reality that, man, this is he time. This is the place and I’m asking her, this is gonna change my life.
