How to protect outdoor plantings in winter

Hi, I am David Epstein welcome to Growing Wisdom we are giving you a tip here. This is about protecting your plants in the winter some of you living areas where you get a little bit snow and cold and what I have here is a shrub garden. This is a pretty cool little instrument basically just open it up and the tents right over your shrub. You put the shrub underneath here and especially if you have shrub near your house and the snow falls down on top of the shrubs.
Just will let the snow fall right over the shrub you could actually buy one of this or you could build one of this. You just get some heavy mesh burlap here for the snow to just run over and also wets the moisture gets through. So when it does rain the plants were got some rain. What else do we have for you let me show you? We also have this is pretty cool this is a Styrofoam cover so why would you use this?
Well, the good reason to use this Styrofoam cover is you have plants that are sort of marginal in your particular zone. So let us say your zone five and you have a zone six plant and you get some winter damage. Cover with one of this it really is maximum protection, I have zone seven plants and I am on zone six and I used this every year. At very year the plants survived you must to tuck underneath and what I do is a put a nice heavy walk on top of this and that seems to work just terrific in terms of protecting the plants.
One of the other things that you can do is use burlap. Now, is burlap one of those techniques that can be a little bit risky because burlap can hit the plant up just a little too much. So, when you wrap the plant around it you only do this if necessary and why would you want to wrap burlap well? Do you have plants which tend to get damage by the winter, winter burn maybe use a little bit burlap and also have to protect the branches do not spread out so much if we got a lot of heavy snow on.
But I am not a huge proponent of these however some people do like using burlaps. So, you can try using burlap there are other better method as we are showing you here to protect your plants in the winter.
