How to Prune an Apple Tree Part 2/3
I set two films but I’m making it three, quite short. Now I’m just being through with this tree with this saw. I’m going to clean -- that’s quite big cuts. Somebody asked about whether you paint this with a tire blazed paints or other. I use to but I don’t anymore,im kind of bothered I don’t think it makes any difference without this or not so it doesn’t make any difference.
What I’ve done here you see it’d taken me about three to four minutes just using a very sharp saw. I’ve taken out branches which were too low and I’m taking out one or two branches which were in the center of the tree.
So I’ve restored it so just sort of a goblet type of shape. It’s very easy to form a half through the tree now. And I’ve just completed the saw part of the pruning but we look up into the tree it’s growing I can tell you about -- I don’t know, here’s a neighbor’s dog and he’s coming in here. He’s very welcome. You didn’t catch it, did you?
Leave my hat alone. You’re a good dog but you—I kind of toss biscuits the other day. Anyway you can see there’s lot of these tall branches. Last year’s growth. What I’m going to do is go back through. Remove most of them. We’ll be cutting back to fruit bud remember, the fruit buds. Remember again the old saying, you should have three new things. That’s a new growth it was made last year. Here’s a two year old growth. Lots of buds on it and here’s an older wood which has already fruit which is telling you it’s the fruit systems. The idea there is that you all have a balance. You know, cut a certain number of leaves. So we cut—I’m looking all the cuts back to fruit bud.
