Hi! I am Jim Tiner, professional paper hanger. Today, we are going to be talking about how to hang wallpaper, and we will be covering an array of subjects from where to start, where to end, how to prepare for, how to strip and how to hang both and we are also going to be talking about how to get in and get out of an inside corner, going around an obstacle. And some of the tools we'll be using today are a roller, a roller cover, a roller pan, a trim brush. A level, preferably wider than your paper, a sponge, wallpaper smoothers, a trim guide or a scrapper, a vinyl knife and single-edge blades, a tape measure, a pencil. A seam roller for rolling your seams down, some sandpaper, paste for inside corners and borders, both Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, lightweight spackle and clear non-staining paste.
And I would like to talk a little bit about what not to do or where not to start, if this is your first time hanging wallpaper. The two rooms that are most difficult to do and I would recommend against doing are your bathroom or your kitchen. They are just too difficult. You need to be able to get into a room, put a couple of sheets up, see what it's going to look like without running into any trouble or any obstacles. So keeping that in mind, also I'd like to talk to you little bit about safety. You will be working with razor blades, working on a ladder, scraps are very slippery, pre-pasted paper probably. So I'd like you to keep all of these things in mind and enjoy your installation.
Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I went to the US School of Professional Paper Hanging in Rutland, Vermont, in 1981. When I finished, I went back to Rhode Island and practice my trade. Two years later, I was invited back as a guest instructor at the same school I went to and in 2002, I moved my business here to Alexandria, Virginia. But enough about myself, let's get started on the preparation and the installation.
