The Mr. Excel Podcast is brought to you by Easy-XL.
Hey welcome back to the Mr. Excel netcast I'm Bill Jelen. Today’s question is sent in by an old friend Jim from California. First thing Jim asked is, “Hey how come you're not doing a Podcast everyday?” well as I explained to Jim, I have six books done and under my belt, my goal this week is to return to 5 Podcast a week. So let’s see if we can do that. Jim’s question, great question, Jim says, “Hey I added the new icon to the quick access toolbars.” I'm imagining that Jim came here and right clicks and says add the quick access toolbar but it’s driving me crazy because it takes two clicks. Click on new, and then click on create, there is some way to get around that. Alright, well let’s go in the way back machine and take a look at excel 2003 and see what's going on.
Back in excel 2003, of course we had a new icon here and then we also had file new dot, dot, dot and those are two very different commands everyone of course used this new command because that was the one we saw all the time and I don’t think anyone ever really used file new, dot, dot, dot where you had to come over here and then choose blank workbook essentially two clicks. And what's happening in excel 2007 is when you go to the office icon, essentially the file menu and go to this, this is the old new dot, dot, dot that was on the excel 2003 file menu the one that no one used. So the other icon is still there. It says to find it, it’s a little bit tough. We’re going to right click on the quick access toolbar customize quick access toolbar not in the popular commands. You want to go to all commands, and then scroll down to the end.
There, okay, there it is, there's new, dot, dot, dot. Jim that’s the one that you got when you went to the office menu, the one you want is the one that doesn’t have the dot, dot, dot. We’ll add that one, actually we’ll get rid of this one. Click OK and now we can just click the icon and bam, there's our new book three, very easy to do. Also of course control N we’ll continue to do it. So there you have it. Jim from California I know you're a Cleveland Indians fan, the new season starts just a short time from now. And predictably ends just a shorter time from then. Sorry to all the Cleveland Indians fan, just being a Cleveland native like I am and following the Indians it’s you know – I used to you know when I'm growing up we finished in the 6th place or move up to the 5th place. Alright, hey I want to thank everyone for stopping by. We’ll see you next time for another netcast from Mr. Excel.
