Hi everyone, I am Erich Rochow, and this is Real World Green. Today, a new green tip for you. This one, pretty straightforward. Take your old books and recycle them. You have got a bunch of these, right? You have got bookshelves of books that you want to hold onto, but -- I mean, I really like this book by the way, but maybe someone else could use it. So recycling your old books, very green. Here is a couple of ways you can do it.
You can sell them on eBay. Really simple. They charge a small fee, bunch of people do this I have seen.
You can donate them on Freecycle, freecycle.org, sign up for your local chapter; I have done that a couple of times.
You can swap books online. There is a couple of sites, they are going to be listed right here because I forgot their names: PaperBack Swap and ReadItSwapIt, I think, is what one of them is called.
Another cool thing is, you can use this website called BookCrossing, and just put your book on the train or on a bus somewhere or maybe in a coffee shop, and you put a little number in here with the website, and you can track where it goes. Remember those dollar bills and there is a stamps that says, where is George, and the website and everything, you can also do that with books.
So you are doing a number of things here. First of all, we are saving paper because new books don't have to reprint it. You are giving your books or selling them to people that want the book, they don't have to have a book new book printed. So we are saving landfill space, we are saving water, we are saving trees, bunch of cool stuff there. You are making up some new space in your house, you are clearing it out. Those bookcases, all be nice and clean, more space for new books, the books that you swap for other people. But you know what I mean here. It's very green, take this, give it on to the next person, maybe they are going to give you a book back, maybe you will make a friend that way, maybe they have another book on gardening that you like. I don't know.
Also, on The Green House, we have a Book Swap section in the Discussion forums, all the way at the bottom there is a Book Swap and Suggestion thing. You can post in there what you want or what you have, and people will say, hey, will you ship that to me, and they will send you a couple of books for shipping. Very cool, come to The Green House under the Forums area there.
