It looks like we have some outside composition issues, let's read. Dear Genevieve, everyone wants to see American dream. Well, we got oversize American pie, but never knew it will be the shape of our yard. Help us to turn this odd shaped space into a peaceful Asian themed garden.
So it looks like we have a triangular odd shaped backyard here, with a deck that goes nowhere and the stairs are bigger than the platform. A retaining wall and a bunch of gravel.
But it has potentially -- you have a large vertical space in which to work. But not a lot of ground space. I get it. No, I'm not a gardener. Obviously, but I can design this for you.
My first thought, is that this deck is it really proving you with the space or the function that you need? This landing actually shrink, those stairs are removed and we made a sudden graduation down the slopes, so that you have one more landing spot, beyond this landing from your kitchen. So you go down into the next landing, so you're more immersed within the garden that we're going to build. That retaining wall, is definitely an eye source. So I would do something that either hangs over or some kind of vertical that eats up a lot of that gray, kind of industrial looking space.
But let's bring in a beautiful fountain and have that first thing you see when you come out from the kitchen on to the landing. I think it's not about adding grass and sprinklers here, it's about really building this space up with vertical. So let's start from the top down. Bring bushes, hosta lilies, box wood, wood, bamboos, and really make this lush beautiful and the refuge that you need in your backyard.
Let's break it down. I want a deck that will lead out from where you have it right now, on down a couple of more levels. So you are really in line with that retaining wall. Let's bring in a beautiful fountain in the garden itself. Tall pieces at the top and work our way down in size and shape and I think you'll make use of that beautiful shade backyard that feels like such a challenge right now.
