Want to add a little zoom-zoom to your room, using auto pin striping and paint is a fun way to dress up inexpensive wooden stools for additional seating for family and friends. Let me show you how.
Because I don't want to get paint all over the legs, I am taping them off to protect them. Priming is the best way to ensure that your paint is going to stick, especially because these are used a lot, so you definitely need to be sure that you started off right. I am using a spray primer, but you can hand-brush on an oil-based primer as well.
Now it's time for the base coat. Remember you can use any color you want, this is what that sets the tone for your chair. I am using water-based paint because it dries quicker, but if you'd like to work with oil-based paint, feel free, it doesn't matter which one you choose. You could stop here with just a solid coat of paint, but this is where you can have a lot of fun with it.
I am using an auto-detailing tape that you can get at any card supply store and it's inexpensive. I am going for a contemporary abstract feel in this chair. Abstract means it doesn't really have to look like anything. You basically just pull it off and put it on like a sticker, it's so easy you cannot mess up.
And another cool thing is that it comes in many different colors, sizes and textures. Look at that you start to add drama with just putting on a sticker, makes me want do it to everything. My husband will look great pin stripes.
These tools will get a lot of use, if you want to put two to three coats of polyurethane and be sure to let your polyurethane dry between coats. These costs less than 15 bucks and you are going to create a cool conversation starter.
For only a few bucks and a few hours you've got a lot of additional seating and all it tips with a little paint, tape and some imagination.
