How to Reduce Healthcare Costs for Small Business
Ivy Hartman: Health care is consistently one of the top concerns for small business owners as we know and our guest today has some definite ideas about how do small business healthcare prices can be solved or some have some solutions for as and our guest today are co- officers of the best selling book Discover Wellness of Staying Healthy can make you Rich. Drs. Jason Dietch and Dr. Bob Hoffman our guest, welcome gentlemen. Absolutely so, tell me how — what is the ultimate solutions to the nations healthcare crisis?
Dr. Jason Deitch: Well it actually is very simple, let’s understand first what the problem is because most people misunderstand that the problem is not who is paying for healthcare which is where we tend to focus most of our attention, the problem really is the amount of sickness care people are consuming and will never find a solution t how we can raise enough money to pay for the amount of people who need the sickness care that we are consuming as a country. The fact to the matter is the ultimate solution to America’s healthcare crisis is very simply to have more people less sick and it is simplest because that sounds that really is the essence of what we need to focus out attention. The book “Documents” what the problem is and provides the solutions because there are in fact seven steps that people can easily do to dramatically improve their health by basically choosing better health through better living and we teach people how to do that.
Dr. Bob Hoffman: You know one of my beliefs systems is that confusion paralyzes people in clarity empowers them. The book is designed to create clarity for people because in the realm of healthcare and wellness care. Most people confused and therefore don’t do anything they’re paralyzed, they go into a health food store and know they should take better care of themselves nutritionally and may see 12,000 supplements and they just say forget it.
And then, they join a gym with the best intentions of exercising and may see all these machines with buttons and they don’t know what the push and how to set it up and they get free tap and so they say forget it. The books is designed on services of designed to create clarity. Clarity creates power.
So, what people needs to do to get healthy is the change their beliefs and how they go about their healthcare. There are 46 Million Americans uninsured. Our healthcare system, we have 4% of the world’s population. 4% American makes up 4% and yet America consumes over 50% of every dollar spent on healthcare worldwide. We have the most expense, the best trained, the most technology and you would think that absolutely that will rank as number one in world health. We’re rank number 37.
According to the world health organization that is embarrassing but it’s also an indictment that the system is wrong. So what people need to do to find the solution to American’s care crisis is change the system, change the system, instead of training disease, instead of trying to prevent disease which is important to but instead of that being the total focus we need to start to be proactive to take steps to get healthier?
They become well and you know people are even confused what wellness is Ivy, and you know wellness is very simple; it’s leading a life of magnificence. You’re not hindered by physical pain or exhaustion, you can’t sleep, or mood swings. You’re living a life if magnificence and you know what everybody deserves that, it’s our birth right, it was meant to be and so many of us have lost it and don’t even had to get it back.
Ivy Hartman: And I think many of our viewers are probably thinking oh! I would love to have that life of magnificence. Oh, I can leave a pain free life, or a pain free day, or a stress, really relief things like that and you’re talking about what is the small business of role or small business owner’s role in making this transformation?
Dr. Jason Deitch: Yeah. I think every small business owner knows in intuitively and experientially every single day, how somebody’s health affects the performance of their business. So really is there responsibility as a leader of the people who worked for them to provide access to these tools and the consequences of not doing so in fact are negative for the owner of the business including the employee.
So it really is the opportunity and that’s what we consult with firms to help to small and large firms to help understand how do I create access for my people to be able to have the tools they need. Make it affordable and feasible for them to actually be able to choose the lifestyle, how is it going to be to their best advantage.
Dr. Bob Hoffman: It’s a very simple process, we interview and consult with the owner of the business and that’s the matter if you’re five employees or 50 or 500 to find out what here she is looking for. The snapshot of their company from a healthcare perspective so that we can custom teller a program to meet their individual needs. In fact what’s very common is they’ll start they’ll some level and when they start singing credible results as they often do, they think graduate and get into the deeper into the pool so to speak.
And it’s all based on shifting the culture and its lead by the small business owner. It’s lead by the person in charge.
Ivy Hartman: And it doesn’t have to be very costly to implement something like this.
Dr. Jason Deitch: No, in fact it doesn’t. You know technology is really working to our advantage. We have companies implement tools for example websites that give all of their employees access to online health and wellness education. So they can use it at their own time and their own way to be off to get the results that they want. Things like the telephonic wellness coaching. One of the greatest neutrals in technology is available, where literally small employers can give their employees access to calling, health coach is available to be able to help them stop smoking, reduce weight, get fit, reduce their stress, have healthy babies.
Dr. Bob Hoffman: Confidentially.
Dr. Jason Deitch: That’s exactly correct, which is why it is important to work with the outside firm. These are people participate in it. Ultimately, it’s an important point to make which is that you can have the best tools and systems within your employee wellness program but if people don’t participate in them then they’re not going to get used. And that’s what we help people do is design the program and because we’re doctors ourselves, add the credibility so that people understand that this is a doctor recommended program, it’s not just a strategy for the business to save money.
