Hi I’m Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, we’re in the process of remodeling a bathroom, and in particular, remodeling a ceramic tile shower. And what we’ve done is we’ve removed all the old ceramic tile. And now, I’m about to begin the process of removing the old backer board, so that we can get to the shower pan eventually. And then replace the backer board with new backer board and new mud shower pan.
So how we begin with today is simply removing the old backer board. I’m going to show you how to do this. So I’m using a screw driver and to basically just back off these screws and remove them from the old backer board, so you can lift the old backer board out.
Sometimes, the nails are buried underneath or the screws are buried underneath the old mortars, so you need to basically bang away and try to find the nails. It should be approximately 16 inches on the center and about 16 inches down and are above each other. So simply, you can look where you can find nails and can guess what you think they all should be and that jut tap away the mortar to find the old screw heads.
So now that we’ve taken all the screws, I wanted to score along the top of this near the ceiling, such as the board pulls really neatly and doesn’t rip the ceiling finish. Just take a utility knife and cut along the edge. So now, we’re just basically using a flat bar and out of my hand just lightly and gently hold the old backer board away from the wall. You want to be careful that we’re doing this, we don’t get the pipes underneath and bend them and flex them and possibly constantly—. So now that I’ve removed all the screws, I’m just pulling the backer board. I’ll put backer board away from the wall. I kept the shower pipe in such that water could continue to drain and pat if there’s was any remnant water in the pipe, but I’ve removed in fact here or I could have gone down the stud wall and then into the lower level.
So as part of the demo on this ceramic tile shower, we’re just going to base and then continue them. And again, remove the screws and remove the old backer board away from the wall. Alright, then we’ll take in our next piece. Now we’re signing our next section. I’m going to pull off that piece here. So when we removed all the backer board, cleaned up the area and all that’s left now is for us to remove the fire blush shower plant pan and we can begin the process of doing up this customs ceramic shock.
