This is Dan Smith at Butler Community College. Today we are going to show you how to remove a dent using a dent removal system that uses a reusable electrode and before we do this we have remove all the paint.
In order for this electrode to fit, it has to be metal and notice that with this grinder it is going back and forth-- this grinding technique is used to remove the paint.
Now, as the paint is removed we can begin removing this dent by using this electrode. Now in order to do this, you are going to need a ground which attached to the same surface panel and the electrode which attaches itself to the surface and notice that you use the same technique that you would with any type of dent removal system and that is that you pull out on the lows and you push in on the highs. So another rule that you follow is the last in first out rule and you notice that he is going with the damaged part last and he going to start removing that first, it's a very common mistake people do to correct damage or the point of impact, you try start working that out that first -- there are many problems in that whole repair process.
Again, notice how he keeps hammering in the highs as he is pulling out on the lows as a very first step locate the highs while pulling the lows up. And then whenever you are done with your electrode, whenever you are ready to move it to another low area just give it a simple twist like that and you are ready to go to the next area. There is nothing to grind off, there no another stud nail left behind and that makes it pretty convenient.
Now remember, the more you practice, the more control you are going to have over your hammer and better pulling techniques that you are going to develop. All of this takes practice and it's very important to learn how to move the metal back and trying to stretch.
Now, here is another tool that you can use and it can work very well, if you use properly. You got to watch how much you pull with that though because its easy to over pull will that too.
