Please forgive the inadvertent spelling of root! I did not mean route!

I moved into a house in 1978 that had many, many overgrown bushes along the front and one side. I had to remove them to be able to see out the windows. Not having a four wheel drive unit, I made do with what I had. After placing a chain, tow rope, or tow strap at the base, I attached it to my Pinto. Don't laugh, it worked! I gave it a pull and locked up the car when the cord was tight and the shrub was leaning. I went back and severed the routes on the backside of the pulling direction. A little more pull with the pinto, more root chopping, etc. I had 8 enormous shrubs out in less than an hour! Hey, try it yourself if you don't have access to a 4 wheel drive. Even if you do, pull a little, chop roots, repeat until done!
