Blood and Bushes

Hey everyone! So a friend of mine runs a local blood drive for the Red Cross. And she has done it for years, and I have always kind of just driven by and I have not stopped by the blood drive and finally, she sent me an email. And then, the other night, my friend called me and said my wife just had to have emergency surgery in the hospital. And I thought she probably needed some blood. And then I got this email from my friend, Jan about her blood drive, and I realized if that is where the blood comes from, it is from us. And I thought okay, I am going to go and give blood. So we are going to take the wonderful truck here, and go give blood, all right.
All right here we go. I have never done this before but it should be pretty simple. Okay, that was probably one of the easiest things I have ever done. Literally, you just have to sit around, you ask some questions. They have some health questions for you. They take a little pinprick and they test your blood. And then you just lie down on the table, and you can barely feel, it when they are going to take your blood, it is like a little pinch, and then you just lay there for 10 minutes. They are really nice people. They even told me some bad jokes. And then you get to sit down at this table, full of food which I like.
And they had some really nice sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches with some pickle relish in it. I am not big pickle relish fan but this was pretty good. And they were all homemade sandwiches from volunteers here in the town. And, I do not know I just thought it was good that I did that. And they also give you t-shirts so I got a New England Patriots t-shirt and they are doing really well this year. It is a whole good thing.
So, please consider giving blood all right. There is a website you can go to. If you see a blood drive sign when you are driving down the road or if you hear about one in your town, just go over there, it takes less than an hour. It is really, really simple. All right, I will see you later.
So today, we are going to attempt a Forsythia removal. We have a nice stone wall in front of our house and the Forsythia is over taking the stone wall. Some Forsythia is nice but to me, it is a weed. It is an invasive weed that has a pretty yellow flower but we are going to try and remove it today. We are going to remove it in a very special way today, we are going to use the truck, and we are going to use the chain. I guess these roots are just incredibly obnoxious. So, rather than try and dig these things out because I dug them up before but it did not work. We are going to try and rip the bush out. So, let us see what happens.
I feel like Harry Houdini here with the chains. We chain the base of the bush. I suggest intertwining the chains a couple of times around and in between, and this is a tow chain and tow chains are nice because they have a nice kind of hook. There are some rose thorns in here, watch out, in addition to the Forsythia.
So tow chains are nice because they have a little slot in your chain that will go right here. It fits right in like that. Because the next link here is a 90 degree, it locks the chain right in there. So we are just going to tighten this up around the rose thorns that are in there too. And we are going to see what happens. Let the mayhem ensue. Okay, here we go. Let us see what happens. You know, it is a project. You think the bumper will stay on? All right, here we go.
Oh, we did not get quite the roots though did we? We got a lot more than we would with the prune or so. Oh, that is not how to do it. This is the biggest one yet. So we will see what happens. So we lock that in, like that. And let us try this again. Not nearly as accurate as tree felling, is it?
We only got half of the Forsythia bush so, we are going to pull it the other way, and try to yank all the way out. It is just barely connected. Look at that root, man. It is the power of a Ford F150 right here.
Okay so there you go. That is a little how to on Forsythia removal. Do not do this if you do not know what you are doing. You do at your own risk. All those disclaimers at the bottom, and do it when the boss lady is not at home.
