Chris Duke: I'm Chris Duke and today on Motorz we're going to upgrade the interior and install some underdrive pulleys on our Ford Mustang project vehicle.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: Today on Motorz we are going to be working on both of our S197 Mustang GT Project vehicles with products provided by our friends over its SilverHorse Racing. On this Grabber Orange Mustang we're going to give the interior a face-lift by installing some build aluminum interior dress up pieces as well as a carbon fiber dash kit. But before we get to this let's crack the hood open on our white Mustang GT and install some underdrive pulleys.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: For the pulley installation you're going to need a breaker bar, a torque wrench, half inch drive, three eights inch drive and a quarter inch drive ratchets with extensions, 5 millimeter socket as well as the 10 millimeter, a 13 millimeter and 18 millimeter and a three quarter inch deep socket as well as a three inch gear puller with a wrench for it.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: In order to get to the pulleys we have to move our intake, now our Mustang here has a BBK aftermarket intake, but it's not unlike any other intake like your factory one. And first you have to disconnect your mass air flow sensor full of sensor and your breather hose and grab a 5/16 inch nut driver under your hose clamps. With that air intake out of the way you want to grab a 10 millimeter socket, you want to lose them but not remove the 4/10 millimeter bolts that's right on the front, now if that pulley wants to turn at the same time you're going to loosen these you can take that belt off and use a strap wrench to help in under place.
Grab a half inch drive breaker bar insert it down here into the belt tensioner and crank that clockwise to remove the tension on the belt, you can lift it up off of the alternative pulley and slowly relax that tension on the breaker bar once you've done that you can remove the water pump pulley entirely. Now here is a good tip if you've got a vehicle that doesn't have a digram of the belts path just grab a digital camera and take a couple of pictures before you begin. With the 13 millimeter socket and the short extension remove this driver side lower alternative bracket that right here. And once you've loosen that up grab a five millimeter socket and remove the stud.
Next we need to remove the crank shaft pulley which is located directly below the water pump pulley that we just popped off that's got right here. Now if you got an automatic transmission you're going to need an impact wrench but our Mustang here is manual, so I need to do is put into gear pull up on the e-brake grab a 18 millimeter deep socket in a breaker bar put on that bolt start cranking away.
And since we couldn't fit our camera down in the engine compartment I will show you how I remove the crank pulley and this is the side that actually faces the engine where as these three cut outs with these three tabs right here this is the side that you're actually going to see. What you want to do is take a three inch gear puller and you want to put a bolt down in there so that this have something to press against and put your gear puller around these three tabs right here. And you can twist this slowly and it will come off the engine.
Now as you can see there is some size differences between the pulleys the crank pulley is lot smaller in diameter than the stock one and the water pump pulley is lot lager than the stock one, so in fact we were switching up the sizes here now with the smaller diameter on the crank pulley your engine is going to have to work last to turn the accessories that's going to give you more horsepower. To reinstall the crank pulley you need to put a dab of high temperature RTV in the keyway on the backside of the crank. Once you've done that and you want use the longer supplied bolt to get it started once it's on far enough then you can go ahead and remove that then use the factory bolt to complete the installation.
To install the new crank pulley you want to line up this keyway with the key that's down there on the crank shaft, once you have got that lined up you can use your starter bolt with the three quarter inch deep socket. With that factory bolt back in place you want to torque this down a 66 foot pounds and then loosing that bolt one full turn and torque it to 37 foot pounds and then you want to tighten it an additional 90 degrees or a quarter turn. Install the supplied 13 millimeter bolt and washer into the bracket this is the same location where we remove that stud earlier.
Install your new water pump pulley using the original 10 millimeter bolts you just want to hand tight these down for now once you're done with that then you can put the belt back on that allow the tension, you can torque it down to 18 foot pounds. After torquing these 10 millimeters bolts down you can reinstall your air intake and fire up your engine to make sure this belts track in properly. Now when we come back from our break we'll give our Grabber Orange S197 Mustang an interior make over.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: We know that our white Mustang has some increase performance due to those underdrive pulleys let's dress up the interior of our Grabber Orange Mustang by installing some build aluminum pieces as well as the carbon fiber dash kit which are all available from SilverHorse Racing. Take a visit our website and click on this episode or that parts button for more information on the products. Let's start with the driver side door by installing the billet in pieces for the switch cover, the mirror adjustment knob as well as that door lock post.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: For this installation you're going to need some safety glasses a trim removal tool, a flat blade screwdriver, some pliers, some tweezers, and a clean terry cloth rag.
MOTORZ.
Chris Duke: We're going to begin the billet installation on our driver side door by replacing the stock door lock post with this build one and then over here on our mirror adjustment knob we're going to pop that off and replace it with this billet one and on our switch plate cover which is this guy right here all we need to do is take a plastic pry bar pop off this center plastic piece right here once we have this out then we can pop this off and put the built one on it.
To remove the switches which is inside this piece here there is this little black tabs so kind of get in there with the screwdriver push this out in order to press that on out and we're going to transplant that right on over to our billet piece. The other thing that we also need to move over are these metal clips and then these pads right here just peel right on off and those help with that paddling.
Now replacing the door lock post pretty easy just unscrew the stock one put on the new one. To upgrade your mirror adjustment knob from the stock plastic one to the billet just grab a pair of pliers make sure this is straight up and just grab it pull it off.
