Hey guys. Chris here again from ClassicVWBugs.com, we have got a lot tip here for you when it comes to generator. Early this weekend and this past weekend my father and I had take out the generator here on this 58 Volkswagen that I have. Most of the shop manuals will tell you that you can actually take the generator out without taking the engine out. I got that tip from other fellow of VW friend of mind is “no you do not have to drop the engine to take the generator out.” Last time we got to change the generator so exactly what we get we drop the engine and then change the generator. It was much easier to do that no doubt. But sometimes on this little out of the bugs and you have little bug engine like we have here. The engines kind a tight and it does not drop about that easy the hip box set back to your body and does not disrupt so easily out this 58 bugs that is supposed 36 power horse engines. This has 61 horse power engines. S a little bit bigger and a 36 and you will drop nice and easy but 16 hundred was a little more difficult.
So, we say, what we can do to kind a get this done quicker is try doing without taking he engine out. The shop manual is actually tell you that you can be unbolt take the mount fold out, you can take the carburator off, and you can just unbolted from a French out here and you can slide the generator out that was that is easy use and done. It is very difficult we took all day to pretty much try our dismantled and got everything out as well as first time try to do that. When the engine is in the car. So we were kind alluring at the same time. So, but we did not realized was to make things a whole lot a easier to take the generator out if you have t replace it. Is the generator stand here as not sold it on. And this studs that go through engines case.
One trick that you can do to make things easier for future present if you have already engine in your car and put it in is take the studs out of that hold the engine standing in and goes though the engine that are case. The block here rather. And instead of having them just hold them buy knots they are actually just bolts that go in. So if you are able to unbolt the knots here and pull that right even with the thread now the generator stands can actually slide out and if it is slide out this way. Now you can take the mount foldout and clear everything out for the generator to come out the French out. When move it have it that way and you just have the knots still going on you still had the threads coring up so you could not lift the generators stand up high enough to get the generator itself out. It just it is too much on the way and that you cannot clear the generator from the mount of fold out to lifted up and out. So one tip that you would like we said you can just put volts in free to case is that actually having in health bound by knots.
So you can take those out next time you want. if you ever get into that point but that was an easier way to possible take the generator out and learn that is about it. For generator removal try doing that tip. You have to do this basically before you put the engine in the cost you have it all set ready for future reference but if you ever do have change the generator that is the way to do it instead of drop the whole engine out you can probably get the thing done pretty quickly. Anyways, that is our tip for today.
