How to Remove a Splinter
Dr. Travis Stork: And if you do have a small piece of glass or something else in your hand for example, you want to use sterile tools to remove it. All you’ve got to do is take tweezers. And sterilized them either in boiling water or a rubbing alcohol and then simply grasp the object as far as you can at the base and slowly remove it in the same direction it which it went into the skin.
And I don’t know -- have you guys ever seen it where a glass will go into the side and it’s clearly wedging, and there are a lot of times, people just get in there and just like pulling it all on the wrong direction, it’s takes a little bit of finesse.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Yes, it does.
Dr. Drew Ordon: Especially in you hands.
Dr. Jim Sears: And use maybe some magnifying goggles that helps you find the glass in the first place.
Dr. Drew Ordon: You could do a lot more damage.
Dr. Lisa Masterson: Yeah.
Dr. Drew Ordon: -- especially in the hand, if you’re pushing and pulling at the wrong direction.
Dr. Travis Stork: And don’t be shy, if you’ve got a big piece of glass in your hand, and it’s deep and you can’t get it out, you need to seek medical help because if it doesn’t come out, it will result in an infection in the long run.
