Quick project we're going to do today is how to remove a Rotor Locator Bolt after it's been stripped out or damaged. A lot of times you'll get to a brake job and above the toughest part of the project is going to be to get that little bolt out of there after the head is all rounded inside of there. And one of the tickets to not doing that to the vehicle is to start with a socket that's still sharp on the tip, that there is absolutely no rounded edges on the tip.
Another thing I recommend doing, before you even start using the socket to remove it, take a brass punch, put it right on the head of the bolt and then hit it a few times real sharply. And what you're doing there is you're breaking up the rust that's accumulated between the bolt and the back side of the rotor. So what's happening here is you're just shocking it enough to get the rust brake free.
Now the problem I have got with this one is we've already rounded it out. We found it -- we took the wheel off, found that it was already rounded out, so what we got to do now is turn it back into a hex. The only way to really do that is to take a steel punch. You can use the back side of it, and what we're going to do is we're going to basically pound the edges of that opening back closed again. And in order to do that it's going to take a few hits.
Now what we're going to do is just get corners of it to come back together. And we're going to close it up slightly. Now we're going to take our Allen Socket and we're going to put it over the opening. Now it doesn't fit anymore, because we've closed that opening up. Now we're going to drive the Allen Socket into it.
Now we're going to take our wrench and we got to hold the rotor for this. Now we're going to break it for you. There you go.
