If the blade on your mower gets dull or worn, it makes you’re not cutting your grass you’re tearing it. So, just follow these steps for getting the cleanest cut.
A sharp motor blade will cut your grass clean and help keep it green. To make sure your blades with their cutting edge best all you need is a drop cloth, work gloves, a wrench to remove the battery cables, a socket wrench to remove the blades, a blade sharpener and balancer, a cleaning brush and putty knife and the appropriate new blades and V-belts if necessary.
Now, before performing any maintenance on your riding mower read the manufacturer's instructions carefully. If you're uncomfortable working on your mower, call our professional for help. Any lawn mower maintenance should be performed in a well ventilated area. If you're working in a garage open the door for maximum air circulation. And cover the work area with the drop cloth.
Brush off any loose clippings, dust and debris. Then for safety, disconnect the battery, always remove the black or negative cable first then remove the red or positive cable.
Every mower is different so follow the manufacturer's instructions to remove the mower deck and blades. The blades should be sharpened once a year. Take them to a professional for sharpening or if you want to do this step yourself, purchase a blade sharpener and balancer at Lowes.
Now, when they are few years old and they have deep gauges or dings they should probably be replaced. Stopped by Lowes with the make model and serial number for your mower. Once everything has been clean, install the blades, then reattached the mower deck and reconnect the battery starting with the positive cable then the negative cable.
