BMW E46 Cabin Air Filter Installation
www.bmpdesign.com
This project is going to be changing the cabin air filter on all E46 models. This is an E46 M3.
Okay. Here we are under the hood of an E46 M3, and the application for this cabin air filter will be the same on all the E46s. What we are replacing here is the cabin air filter. It fits right into this upper area, near the windshield Cal. The one that you are looking at here is a Micron filter, which filters out only the hard particles.
There's an optional piece available called the carbon filter, which also takes out odors and allergens.
To remove this piece, to remove the old ones, you have got three twist locks right here. And they are just half turned bayonet type twist locks. The other one is already undone. There's three of them across the board. Pry this open with your hand, reach inside, pull the cabin filter out.
This one in the car is a charcoal filter, and here you can see all the debris its collected over the last few months.
To replace it with a new one, what we are going to do is make sure that these tabs on the side of the cabin filter are facing down. What we are going to do is pry it up, we will slip the unit underneath there. It will go into its slot. Make sure it rides in the both sides. You bring it down. You reinstall your twist locks and you are ready to go.
