Teresa: Whether you’ve just bought or you’ve lived in one place for a long time, one home improvement project you may have been thinking about doing is replacing an old or leaky faucet like this one. Now this is a fairly simple project to tackle and join me for--this is Angie Coffman from Delta Faucet, hi Angie.
Angie: Hi! Teresa.
Teresa: What are we putting in today?
Angie: Today we’re going to be putting in Delta’s Victorian kitchen collection. This one we designed to have a handcrafted look to marry overall charm with modern day technology.
Teresa: This is really nice Angie, Oh my gosh! It’s heavy too.
Angie: Yes, actually this spout begins with over 14 pounds of brass and we’re just trying to lengthen the durability once installed. As well we have a single handle valve with a stainless steel ball valve, one moving part, and fewer things to go wrong.
Teresa: Angie this looks so nice in here and something else they may want to think about is upgrading their sink at the same time.
Angie: It’s a great time to do it.
Teresa: That sure is. We’ve got one so let’s go ahead and turn the water off and take this one out and we’ll get started.
Angie: Great.
Teresa: Angie, this homeowner decided to upgrade from their stainless steel sink to this really nice porcelain one.
Angie: That’s beautiful.
Teresa: It sure is. Now let’s talk about while we have it on the floor. It’s actually easier to install the hardware with a doubt instead of waiting to install the sink and then trying to come up underneath the counter.
Angie: It certainly is because you’re going to attach each one of the pieces to the sink and it’s easier to do it in light as suppose to doing it underneath in the dark and to cramped spaces.
Teresa: That’s true. And also the different opening is going to allow us to customize the sink for the homeowner.
Angie: It is. We want to start with the spout. You have four different pieces and the spout usually will go the farthest in the center or the farthest to the left depending on the sink that you have. You want to make sure that it reaches easily into each basin. So you put it all the way to the left or then you take it to consideration of how the end user is going to use the handle assembly, whether they’re left handed or right handed. So if you’re a left handed person, you put it to the left for ease and then move the spout over once.
Teresa: Exactly.
Angie: But since our user is right handed, we’ll put the spout in the middle.
Teresa: And then the handle assembly will go right here beside it. And then also they want to take in to consideration what side they’re going to wash dishes on. So if they are going to wash dishes on this side, they would want to put the soap dispenser here in the corner. And then finally you would want to drop the vegetable spray in. What I really like about this particular faucet Angie, is the stabilization plate that comes with it for the hardware depending on the type of application that you have.
Angie: Yes, Delta included this so that for thin deck applications like stainless steel sinks. We already talked about the weight of the spout. Not only is it heavy but it also is a high arching spout. So with that much weight and the reach, it could cause this thin deck a stainless sink may be to bend when in movement.
Teresa: Exactly.
Angie: But using this will alleviate that problem because it distributes the weight.
Teresa: That’s right. But since we do have a porcelain sink, we don’t need to use the stabilization plate.
Angie: Correct.
Teresa: And also the hardware is designed so that it’s easy to install no matter what application you have.
Angie: Yes so let’s go ahead and install this spout then. As you can see, a simple washer and a nut will hold this in place, and it’s also much easier now with the light. You can see, it’s supposed to doing this underneath the dark.
Teresa: Yeah.
Angie: You just hand tighten it all the way up to the top and then come in with the wrench to get it tighter to the deck. Okay Teresa now that we have the spout on, let’s add that handle assembly.
Teresa: Okay Angie, I’ve got that right here and it goes through this opening. And now that I have this in place, I need to separate these copper tubes just a little bit so that I have more room to work.
Angie: They are made of copper so you want to be careful not to bend them too much because that would cause leakage if you crack the tubes.
Teresa: And once that we have this bent, we can put this washer on which is actually called cross foot and goes over the mounting stud which is here and this is going to hold the handle assembly up against the sink and keep it firmly in place. And now with this nut I’m just going to hand tighten this down. Be sure to tighten this nut down as much as you can with your fingers first. Angie, even though we’re not working under the counter we still a tight space here in amongst these tubes but you guys have a great tool that comes with the faucet that is perfect for tightening this down.
Angie: Yes and as you can see the bottom is designed to work with a couple of different tools to help you use this, such as the ratchet.
Teresa: That’s right. You could also use a Phillips or a flat head screw driver to tighten this down just like that. We’ve added the vegetable sprayer and the soap dispenser and these were also easily tightened down by the hand with the wing nut. The next thing that we need to do is connect our three pieces so that we can hook this up to the water line.
Angie: This use to be the most difficult--one of the most difficult parts of the installation in the past but now we’ve added this quick snap fitting that eliminates the need for tools and you can hear it snap on. As well in the past, you weren’t sure which one of these to connect it to. And you can see when I push on it will not allow me to engage but down here, you hear and feel the snap as well. So we’ll do our final snap fit and we hook these two pieces together.
Teresa: Okay Angie the last thing that we need to do is install our water supply lines and these are standard, you can pick this up at any local home center or hardware store. Okay Angie I’ve got everything hooked up back underneath the sink, you want to turn the water on and see if it works.
Angie: We’ve got hot and cold, it looks good up here. The last thing we need to do is decide which soap or lotion we want to put in, fill it from the top, and the installation is complete.
Teresa: Great! I think we did a good job. Talk to us about the price points on this faucet.
Angie: Well it depends on the finish. This particular finish is our venetian bronze finish. Delta also offers this in brilliant stainless, chrome, and a chrome and brass split finish. So depending on the finish that you choose, it will range anywhere between $200.00 and $400.00 retail.
Teresa: Well I think it’s absolutely beautiful. But now this Victorian line isn’t just limited to this type of faucet, is it?
Angie: No it’s not. Within the kitchen, we also have a two handle option that is available as well we have preparation sink or bar faucets available within the kitchen. And then as far for your entire master bath suite. We have a complete collection of tub showers and lavatories available within the Victorian collection.
Teresa: Well that’s great, consumers then have a lot of choices to make with Delta.
Angie: Yes, they can really make a complete home.
Teresa: Good. Well Angie Coffman with Delta Faucet, thank you so much.
Angie: Thank you Teresa.
Teresa: As you can see, this was an easy installation in adding this faucet and it’s really upgraded the look of this kitchen.
