HOW TO REPLACE A TOILET’S WATER SUPPLY VALVE – PART 1
Water supply valve in hoses have a limited life span. Deterioration of the internal gaskets and corrosion between the middle parts may cause the leak. If in any time a water supply valve in hoses considered problematic it should be replaced immediately in order to ensure proper function and prevent water damage and leakage in the home.
The parts needed to replace the water supply of the assembly are water supply of about an angle stop and a toilet tank hose. Both of which can be purchase at hardware or plumbing supply stores. To avoid confusion with the many different kinds of valves and hoses available the ¼ turn angle ball stop with a 7/16 to ½ inch slip joint outlet is recommended. This tab comes in either in ½ inch nominal compression inlet for copper pipe or ½ female iron pipe inlet for iron pipe depending on the type of the connection needed.
For this pipe a braided nylon steel toilet tank hose whether ½ inch female iron pipe inlet is required. This pipe and tank hose combination offers the best overall reliability, easy installation and performance.
To perform this repair make sure you have two adjustable opening wrenches, a small pair of re-joint pliers and a small plastic container to collect excess water. To replace the water supply valve begin by turning off the water main that leads into the house. Then turn on the bathroom sinks cold water next to the toilet, to relieve the water pressure so when the valve is removed the amount of water draining is minimal.
Now, on the bathroom begin by removing the tanks lid and flush the toilet to enter the tank and removed the back pressure from the water supply hose.
Next, place a plastic bin blow the old water supply valve to collect the water that will drain once the hose is disconnected. Then take the water valve above of the box. Remove both lock nets and turn about to the off position, so when it’s ready for quick installation when the old valve is removed.
