I’m going to replace this outlet with a GFI, also known as a Ground Fault Interrupter. That will bring this garage up the code. When working with electricity, you always have to minimize your risk against electrical shock. Here, they come up with a new device called a Plug Grip. All we have to do is plug it into the receptacle. You notice two lights came on. They’re indicating that we have power to both the plugs on the receptacle. We need to shut the power off when you go in to the electrical panel, identify the breaker, put the breaker off, the lights go off, now we know we are safe to continue our work.
We already removed the cover on the outlet itself. Now it’s time to remove the outlet. All you have to do is, take the screws out, loosen them up. There’s another nice thing about this device, it gives me a handle to hang on to this receptacle and turn it around. It gives me access to the wires and remove all the wires. Now we are ready to install the GFI, just take the device, plug it in and over here, the wire placed behind this screw and you notice how the plug grip allows me to hang on to this GFI. Now that I have all the wires connected, what’s really nice about this, it allows me to stuff the wires back in the box and they’re pretty stiff. It also helps me hold it in place, put the screws, attach it to all the screws, the two screws back to the box and we will be all done. Now we’re going to pick the plate, mount the plate over our GFI for a nice finish look, two screws to hold it in place and we can place our plug grip back into the outlet and turn our power on to make sure we have power.
