How to Ride a Motorcycle Part 1
In another month or two I am going to be traveling back to my home state of Iowa, well not just to catch up my family there, but also I have been invited by my father to teach a course in internet safety to a group of people who are attending his Motorcycle Rally on Motorcycle Safety. I am not a Motorcycle rider myself. I never actually with through with it, even though I was certified at one time to ride a Motorcycle as I have mentioned before when did the two stroke motorcycle tips lists, I was not just into it, I just could not do it.
But I do have people out there, viewers, community at large folk who are motorcycle riders and including Daniel and Daniel rides and have fallen one. That is his handle which is kind of weird because his got the top five tips for beginning with motorcycles and was kind of inspired by the two stroke motorcycle tips list that we did awhile back. So if you want to get into motorcycles, this maybe for you.
Number one—read. Read a lot, read forms, magazines and books. The more you read about motorcycles the better prepared you will be for starting riding and you figure out what kind of motorcycle you want to get. There are lot of great rider forms out there that are filled with people who will more than happy to help you figure out what kind of motorcycle would fit you best and sure tips on how to become a better rider.
I also strongly recommend proficient motorcycling by David Hau, I am not sure how to say that name. This is a great book that really makes a lot of the theory and skills easy to understand. It realizes motorcycles were, well I guess, they are kind of complex machines.
Number two—take a motorcycles safety rider class. That is what my dad actually teaches and I oddly enough he broke his wrist while teaching a motorcycle safety class, because he was walking his motorcycle back, slip and fell. I put those pictures on flickers if anybody wants to post them. I know that a lot state DMB offer his classes through the DMB. But even if you are state does not offer his class through the DMB, you should still be able to find where this classes offered in your area, through another agency such as the local or state police.
The basic MSR classes are thought using small engine motorcycles that are owned by the agency giving class. So you do not have to worry about either trying to learn on the bie that has weight too much power for you or about dropping your own bike the first time you try to ride it. These classes teach you the basics of riding in a safe controlled environment and by far the best way to learn how to run to ride a motorcycle. As an added bonus in many states, you will automatically get your motorcycle license when you successfully complete the class and that is what happened to me.
And I made it all the way through and I remember the things that freaking out most, the motorcycle instructors stood at one end, we where in like a gigantic parking lot. And you would have to gunned these things, like little Honda. I mean, these things were so like clunky, I think that was half the problem, because they did drop so many times. And he would have to gun it like full Torado. And you would have to go straight at the guy and like red at the last second, he would like point one direction the other and you would have to sway that way and then go away. I mean, that was so nerve racking I can really tell you. But it was good to go through that at least once, you will never know if you will ever be going to be involved in some kind of a high speed chase and have to race to the streets of Vienna on a Motorbike with a damsel in the stress on my back as I am racing against the clock, with a bomb strap in my lap, it can happen.
