How to Roller Skate

Rhiannon Ally: Alright moms Eric and Alli hit the pavement literally to perfect their roller skating ability let's tag along Alli Joseph: There I come catch it. Eric: Guess what roller skating is back Alli Joseph: So today we have got the expert, the skate guru Lezly Ziering and he is going to come and teach us a few pointers about how to become a roller girl Eric: Lezly come on in how are you now we have heard that you are the go to guy if you want to learn how to roller skate right Lezly Ziering: Yes that's the rumor Eric : Tell us a little bit about your back ground Lezly Ziering: Well, I started out as a dancer, I danced for many years, a professional dancer. Danced in Jim Carrey movie and I danced for many years before I fell in love with roller skating and I started roller skating down here in the village, fell in love with it, till I saw people doing marvelous spins and everything and started teaching. I have been teaching for 30 years. I have taught over fifteen thousand people from the time that I have been teaching. Alli Joseph: You got to tell me how did hurt your arm please say it wasn't from roller skating Lezly Ziering: Okay it wasn't from roller skating, no it really wasn't. I was bringing water to my dog and I tripped over one of his toys, landed on my funny bone, it's not funny. Alli Joseph: Is there any difference in the type of skates that one could buy Lezly Ziering: Absolutely you have Inlines first of all, these are quads. Inlines of course like a roller blades. I recommend quads because they are easier to stand because there are not one line of skates, you have balance on the 8 wheels that are -- Eric: Have edges - Alli Joseph: I don't know what they call this -- the sword of -- Rhiannon Ally: How many lessons does it take for some body to get perfection at roller skating Lezly Ziering: That's impossible to answer. Every body is different every body has a different fear quotient and that is the basis that's related to your learning process the fear quotient Alli Joseph: Alright Lezly let's go. Lezly Ziering: It's about pushing your knees forward in space. When I skate, this is the position I am going to be ending, because the back foot pushes it, it comes here and the back foot pushes. Wait, wait don't do yet, no don't do that. That's it. Alli Joseph: Something like that. Lezly Ziering: No don't do any more than one. Remember that once you push down to five over here you don't go up or down, you just stay right there and just extend this leg then when bring the foot in that's when you come up for seven. Alli Joseph: And I go. Lezly Ziering: The y and that's a T -- they both have a use. The reason it rotates out is because you are going forward on this and this is going side ways Eric: So that should be organic. Alli Joseph: But then how do I get this back at an angle without rolling backwards. Lezly Ziering: Push down parallel push down parallel push down very rhythmic boom shack boom shack you've got it Alli Joseph: Look never back. Lezly Ziering: Never lean back Eric: Recovering. It's fun.
