Carrie Webb: Another question from Randolf Merdock also known as Ego Motto. Ego Motto says hi Robbie I finally have a question for you. I’ve been given a pivoting Monitor by someone who upgraded to a larger size it is a Samsung Sink Master 943 PWX. I am using the Nvideo 177 drivers and when I try to Pivot the Monitor nothing happens. I went into screen resolution under preferences and it gives me two options for rotation, normal and upside down. I’m not sure —which would you like?
Robbie Ferguson: It’s the same thing because your bottoms are at the top instead of the bottom.
Carrie Webb: I’m not sure how to actually get the monitor image to rotate as I did add the run rotate on to x or dot com.
Robbie Ferguson: xword. Conf is a file that configures your x environment. x dot is always your window and environment so randrrotate and setting that to on allows you to rotate the desktop and I think what you’re saying is that these drivers are not showing as an option. So as a supplement to that you’re on the right track by adding that to xword.conf I believe but what we want to also do is use the application called xrandr, it’s always a complicated one all these weird Linux names. There it is I just type it in just to make sure I had right. Xrandr or xrandr. Use that command with –o and an orientation like right. You can find it more by typing xrandr—help and you’ll see that the orientation –o see at the top there, your options are normal, inverted left right or you can use them miracle values as well. Let me know if that works for you. That application from terminal is going to allow you to rotate that just using that command and then just set it back to the normal when you want to switch your monitor back.
Carrie Webb: Ego mottos say ah the missing piece thanks a lot.
Robbie Ferguson: No problem hope that works. I love a wide screen monitor to turn its side for reading like Pedia files and stuff. It’s like looking at a book it’s beautiful but none of my monitors’ rotate. So I thought about getting the best amount and they’re like $200.00 box and that’s like and what’s the point.
Carrie Webb: And so that will allow you to rotate or does it do anything else for your of best amount.
Robbie Ferguson: Of best amount is like a stand that allows to kind of move it around. Move your monitor rather than this integrated stands but can you imagine like some of these monitors like the HP monitors are gorgeous and I’m sure that there’s ones but that’s one that I’ve seen. The trend sideways, so you get a wide screen monitor that’s like this and you flip that on the sideways and now it’s tall instead of white so you know when you look at a piece of paper that’s exactly how your paper is, so to be more natural.
Carrie Webb: yeah you know it’s crawling down every drop of seconds.
Robbie Ferguson: Yeah it makes me wonder why that’s not more common like for many patters to be doing that. I think maybe it might happened and especially things get bigger maybe originally it wasn’t practical because a 14 inch monitor turns sideways so tiny and it’s like ridiculous but maybe a 28 inch monitor on the other hand for this way is absolutely phenomenal. You’ll notice as well that interface lift supports some of those neat resolutions for desk top wall paper because that’s the other thing because you need. You don’t want your wallpaper to be sideways and you don’t want like to have black part of some top in the bottom.
