Hey, there Indy Mogul viewers. Welcome to the day’s episode of Q and Jared.
Our first question comes from a viewer from North Carolina. They want to know, I want to know why there is no Eric. Can Jared answer that?
Yes, I can answer that.
Hey, Steve, I saw this picture with this guy who was hugging a Christmas tree. It was really sappy.
I am leaving.
I told Erik about using those Ponds all the time. I told them, I warned him and he did not stop, I have to shank him.
A viewer from Friend no asks has Jared shank anyone?
Will from Oklahoma asks, “Hey, Jared, where do you find the most wasted time in movie production? Any tips in preventing wasted time?
Time is mostly wasted due to the lack of pre- production. If you do not have shot list, if you do not have story boards, you are going to spend most of your day figuring out where you are going to move the camera next, what kind of coverage you are going to get. Lack of pre-production is going to kill you. All that stuff if you hush it out in pre-production and once you get the set you bang-bang-bang right to the day.
A viewer from California asks where can you get lighting gels?
Good question, BNH has sheets about this size about five and a half bucks.
A viewer from Texas would like to know how would be a cheap way to make a track to move your camera?
I am guessing by that you mean a dolly track. Well, keep watching Indy Mogul. In the future episodes, I will be making cheap, portable, collapsible dolly track.
Muffin Dog from Dirty Jersey wants to know. How long have you had you bad ass moustached?
I was born with it.

Kevin AZ wants to know. Is it better quality to record audios straight to mini DV tape via mic input on the camera or an external source, example mini disc and sync it in post?
The quality of your audio is going to be mostly determined by the quality of your microphones regardless whether you are doing in the camera or in your mini-disc player.
EMT friend asks, what is the most technical jargon that you can spew?
I just want I need you to do.
Four sticks to five wire band and 600 amp pass through box and then soft sided use other than that in the snake bites run a 100 amps back that way courtesy for Video Village and the intro of the new trailer and I want you to run a hundred amp that way into a 160 split. You need 60 amp whips going to a wood head and then another 60 amp running off to the baby 5K . Last leg run probably 200 feet of it that way for the big antenna that they got going up over there and I am going to be over foot with age and you are going on crafty.
You said something about a big itinerary.
Keifer asks, “Hey, Jared, do you get free doughnuts on a movie set?
You get more than doughnuts. All the food is free. Lunch, breakfast, snacks all day long. It is all free.
Yet another Texans wants to know, “I have a friend who wants to go into producing. Any tips on getting started as a producer.”
Well, is he a smug jerk? If so, he is half-way there.
Old Bones from Chi town wants to know, what are ways to get your crew and actors motivated when they are not being paid?
It is hard to get a committed group of people working for free. Yes, it is true. Free production, pre-production, free production have everything laid out, know exactly what you are going to do that day through out the whole day. Know where everybody should be at any given time of the day. Nobody will complain if they know exactly what time they are to be going to be off. If they are fed or have chips and soda on hand and pizzas, those will work fine. Basically, be professional.
A viewer from K-Zoo wants to know, Can a Jib Arms support a heavier camera like the Excel II. If not, how can you make it stronger?
I am guess you are referring to the turbo mini Jib. Yes, no, it will hold it. We put our V1U on it and it works just fine.
Ladri text it in and wanted to know, where are good places to find supplies for builds if there is not any junk store around you.
Goodwill, Salvation Army, garage sales or your grandparent’s basement.
Micco, 6, asks what is the worst thing that ever went wrong in a set?
I was working as a medical prop technician, a number of years ago, and I was called to a set and it was for some pilot. It was a hospital up in the Bronx and we were shooting in an actual working operating room. One of the grips was hanging duvitine up, which is a black fabric, hanging up to a basically skirt right up the walls and he accidentally hit a sprinkler. Black water was flushing everywhere. There was about an inch of it on the ground and it was starting to roll back to the back door that goes to the sterilization room behind the operating room. I do not think that guy ever worked again.
Now, I want to thank you guys for all these great questions. I am more than happy to answer any thing you might want to know. You can find me in the forums, send me a PM, whatever. I will answer pretty much any question you might have. Secondly, Erik’s kidney should be probably healed by next week so it will be back to regular schedule programming.
