Hi, this is Roger DeReu and my website is freeconsultant.com. What I want to show in this video is probably the safest way I can think of to open an email that might be kind of suspicious.
Now ordinarily, you do not want to open emails that are suspicious but in a business environment there are times when people feel that they see something that makes it I guess enough of an evidence that it might be legitimate email and they don’t want to miss out on a business communication some type or you’ll be responsible for an email so you want to take a look at but you want to do so in say this method possible. So, what we’ve done here is taken a machine to head out, we can install on it and this one does not—on that machine, we right click on a message and drag it to the desktop and release the mouse button and select the Copy and we can install test message. And if I look what’s on this machine which show puzzle envelope in the icon, but we have this message here.
In the previous screen cast, I showed how you can add a shortcut to notepad to this into contacts menu here and here’s one of the reasons that we do it. So, they just make it convenient, take a look at the file. We’re going to pop this open in notepad. And you can see this email, it’s a lot of gibberish but we can kind of find out if it really is safe or not safe by looking on what we see here and if there’s HTML code in here or little—your dot that is sometimes put in these emails to communicate and kind of phone home, it won’t actually activate this way.
Now, if you really want to be safe and secured, you can disconnect your internet connection, when you do this inn your internet connection, but this is probably the same so I can think of taking a look at a message. And as you scroll down, you can kind of see okay here is the address and I've tried to remove all the names, protect the innocent here, but here’s an address that when we read it, it was pretty obvious it was spam but not for certain because sometimes spammers will use a legitimate address and then send it as a person. But as we continue to scroll down, we’ll see more information and you have to kind of pick it up here but you can even—when I see you insert you a space in here and see further words subject—emails is find the best replica rolex jewelry, bam that’s it. This was spam.
And at that point, we know we can say if we delete it but in the mean time when we open this email, there was no HTML code that was activated and phoned home to what the spammer know that this is a valid address and it didn’t go out to any—websites of bringing any code down there on machine. And that’s what we wanted to avoid. So, here you have it, it’s a—as I can say what I can think of to open an email that you really feel that you need to open but again reiterate do not open suspicious emails as a matter of you know your general policies I guess. You want to be as safe as possible. Some of these things can really strike hard on your PC and do some damage. That’s it for the screen cast, please visit my website at www.freecomputerconsultant.com.
