You can save 70% of your computer's energy use just by making sure it goes to sleep when you are not using it. Here is how.
If you are using Windows, go to the Start Menu, click on Control Panel, in the Control Panel, look for your battery shaped power options icon, click on that, then change when the computer goes to sleep. Let me go with 30 minutes here, 30 minutes again. Save Changes, and that's it.
On the Mac, it's super easy. Click on the Apple symbol up in the left hand corner of the screen, go down to System Preferences, then in the hardware row, find the energy saving lightbulb icon. Click on that, and put the computer to sleep when it's inactive for, I am going to go with 30 minutes, but you can choose to do whatever you like.
Close the window, and you're all set to go, done and done. And if you are leaving through the night, make sure to power off your computer completely to save even more energy. Now get out of here before I tell your boss that you are doing it. Happy Biting.
