How to Save Energy with TV TrickleSaver
AJ Vickery: One thing I know that is really important to people these days is power. Saving power, saving energy, you know we’ve all got our green hat on. We recycle things and we want to save power and we heard about phantom power before, phantom power being when you got things plugged in but you’re not using them they’re still drawing power from your wall.
Well we came across an interesting company. They’re called Tricklestar and they came out with the product called TrickleSaver for the TV. And let me show you how this works because it’s actually pretty cool. You plug your television set into one end of it. The other end back here goes into the wall. Now, what you do is you attach a device or what we’ve done here is a power bar to this end. What that does is we’ve got this several different devices. We’ve got our charger for our router. We’ve got a lamp plug in here and we’ve also get our Xbox.
When I turn on my television set, I’m actually going to turn on all of these devices. Why? Well, because when I turn my TV off all of these devices are going to go off and they’re not going to be taking any amount of power and this is a great idea to save power but also kind a bit convenient way to control the number of different devices with one remote. So here’s my remote from my TV, again plug in to my TrickleSaver. I’m going to hit the power, that’s going to turn the TV set on. As you can see instantaneously it also turned on our power bar which powers are router, which powers our light and which power our Xbox 360.
When I go to leave the house for the day or unfinished watching TV, I click the power and it’s automatically going to turn all these devices off as well. One thing that they do recommend is that you think about what devices you want to completely turn off. For example, your cable box might not wake up and record that important program later in the day. If you do have it attached to something like this. Otherwise, all these devices that do take that phantom power, this is a great way to save a little bit of money and be better to your environment.
