Many of us have heard of GM's Cylinder Deactivation. This is where cylinders can be shut off so that the engine uses less fuel.
Okay, in the engine I have four fuel injectors, one of which you can see right here. What I'm going to do is unplug this. Now that it's unplugged, I'll only be feeding fuel to three cylinders.
Alright, we're ready for our first test of cylinder deactivation. I'm going to start the car now and we'll see how it works. Okay. The engine is running a little rough, one cylinder less. For my efforts I was immediately rewarded with a check engine light there. But we'll continue on with the test to see how it works out.
Alright, I'm noticing a slight loss in horsepower. It should be about 25% less. Hopefully, I'll get a 20% increase in gas mileage. Possibly, somebody will think of a way to get a computer so that the check engine light won't work and that I do this automatically.
Okay, now the check-light was flashing off and on.
And now we'll check my mileage. That was fun!
