PC Roger: Hi, this is PC Roger. And the purpose of this short video is to show you about a green or money saving feature in the Netgear ReadyNAS NVX network attached storage device. What we will do first here is we will go ahead, log into the administration panel. This particular unit has the name of just N1 and with the admin on the, after the slash prompts us for the username and password. By default, the username is admin, the password is just netgear1. So, here we are with the ReadyNAS NVX control panel and what we can do is take a look at the system here, click on power. And the power saving option here for the ReadyNAS will actually enable disk spin down after a certain number of minutes of an activity.
In this case, let's go with 30 minutes and that way if the unit is not used for that period of time, the disks will spin down. Hopefully, save you a little hard drive and save you some power. Now you might notice here that the -- there is actually a power timer feature that enables you to set times when the ReadyNAS is available or not. Again, it's a green feature and might signal money from your electric bill. Here are the other options UPS configuration, if you have an nice APC UPS, you can plug it in, you can even turn it into a monitoring device for that UPS then through the ReadyNAS and you can have Wake-on LAN.
You might using other of those, but we want to make sure and not click on apply here. So that the changes we have made will take effect and we hear a little pop-up box here that says, the page https and just spend out worker after rebooting the device. That's all there is to for this short video. I just wanted to show you that one feature, green is in and everybody wants to set to save a little bit money on their power bill.
